If you are not familiar with these two terms, you have to understand that DMZ refers to a part of your network that has been removed from the rest of the network. This is something that has been isolated from your network. The firewall is something that can be used in order to make sure that the DMZ will happen.
This will make sure that the isolation will take place by restricting the traffic that will be taken and received by the intranet. Take note that isolation may sometimes need to be done especially when it has been exposed to something that will be bad for the whole network.
