Aerobic refers to anything occurring or living in the presence of oxygen, while anaerobic means anything occurring or living in the absence of oxygen. Relating this to aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise will differ a little bit. Aerobic exercise is a type of exercise done with ease and largely depends on the use of oxygen to generate the energy needed. The oxygen is needed so that the muscles can easily burn the fat and glucose to release ATP.

Anaerobic exercise, on the other hand, is not a type of exercise that depends on the use of oxygen, but one that depends on the cellular tissues for the energy required. For anaerobic exercise, it is done without depending on the oxygen for the energy required. This type of exercise is characterized with high intensity and is pretty fast. While aerobic exercise helps in improving circulation in the body, anaerobic exercise helps to strengthen the bones.

Aerobic exercise is any form of exercise that gets your heart rate up for a sustained amount of time. Some instances of aerobic exercise include swimming laps, running, or cycling. Anaerobic exercises, on the other hand, involve quick bursts of energy and are achieved at maximum effort. Some examples of anaerobic exercise include sprinting, jumping, Pilates, and weightlifting.

Your respiration and heart rate are different depending on whether you are doing aerobics or anaerobic exercises. During aerobic workouts, oxygen is your primary energy source, while during anaerobic exercises, your body depends upon already stored energy sources, rather than oxygen to feed itself. The benefits of aerobic exercise include the ability to lose weight and keep it off, it may help lower blood pressure, it may increase your stamina and reduce fatigue, improved concentration, better mood and it strengthens the heart. The benefits of anaerobic exercise strengthen bones, burns fat, and builds muscle.
