Disk and disc: These words, for many years, have given rise to a lot of confusion in the context of their meaning and usage. Disk” is a magnetic device that can be re-modified over and over by default unless it is write-protected or locked. Very common types include floppy disks, external hard disks, and the computer’s hard drive, mostly sealed in a plastic or metal case. The complete setup is usually known to be a hard drive. It is possible to divide a disk into different smaller portions. “Disc” is the common round device that is read-only, rewritable, or writable.

Mostly known amidst this very type of storage media includes a CD, CD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM, and DVD-Video. The ones that can be re-modified among these discs are written once and for all. The writing of contents on a disc is known as “burning a disc.” CD-RW, DVD-RAM, and DVD-RW discs can all re-modified more than once. The small and round disc is usually used for storing audio files, videos, movies, and data.
