RJ45 or Registered Jack 45 is one of the examples of interconnection standards. Although it was originally meant to be used for telephones, it is now being used for wired networking in computers. On the other hand, CAT5 is one of the examples of cables that are specifically designed to be used for Ethernet networks. In CAT5, there are four different twisted cables.

These cables are twisted mainly for noise reduction. The use of CAT5 is becoming very popular because it offers more speed, usually at the rate of 100mbps. In wired networking, RJ45 dictates how the wires are arranged or how the cables are wired, whereas CAT5 measures the rate of data flow in digital networks i.e., bandwidth. While it is very easy to replace CAT5, most especially now that there are cables that offer higher bandwidth and speed, RJ45 can't be replaced very easily because it still stands as one of the best being used by hardware manufacturers.

RJ45 and CATS5 are two of the most common terms in wired networking. The RJ in RJ45 connotes registered jack, while CAT5 stands for category UTP cable.URJ45 is the electrical interconnection standard that distinguishes the connection and how the wires are situated at the end of the wire while CAT5 is the norm regarding ethernet cables.

RJ45 never had any kind of significant use in telephony, but it has seen promise in computer networking where it has become the model for networking. CAT5 is a group of cables that are used for ethernet networks. A single CAT5 cable consists of four twisted up cables. The purpose of the twisting is to diminish the amount of crosstalk and cancels out EMI. CAT5 cables also depend on twisting for noise reduction and are not guarded.
