There are two different processes that you have to be familiar with because these are the processes that are in charge of providing some energy to cells. When you say aerobic respiration, this means that ATP or adenosine triphosphate will be produced especially if there is no oxygen available.
Fermentation, on the other hand, is the other process available that will allow energy production to happen when there is not enough oxygen available. Fermentation is known to be an anaerobic process.
Between the two, respiration is considered to be more effective in producing the ATP that the body needs. They will follow the same pathway but the things that they need to undergo are different.
