Bacteria are small. They are organisms with one cell, and they do not have a nucleus. Bacteria can be one of two things. The first thing that bacteria can be is aerobic. For bacteria to be aerobic, it indicates that the bacteria require oxygen. These types of bacteria normally produce water.

The second type of bacteria that can be is anaerobic bacteria. This type of bacteria is able to survive without any oxygen. This type of bacteria can produce things like nitrate, sulfate, and methane. Both types of bacterias are able to grow, regardless of if they need oxygen or not.

It is sometimes confusing to be given different terms, especially if you are not too familiar with the terms. When you say aerobic bacteria, this is a type of bacteria that would need oxygen so that it can survive properly.

When you say anaerobic bacteria, this is a type of bacteria that would not need any oxygen so that it can live. There are different organisms that would need oxygen in order to make energy or to do their tasks well. Take note that anaerobic bacteria will get the chance to grow in the absence of oxygen. There are also different things that are produced by these bacteria. You can expect that anaerobic bacteria will produce sulfide, methane, and nitrate. For aerobic bacteria, they will usually produce water.
