Many products require and make use of metal, but over time, the metal can begin to deteriorate. The way it deteriorates can lead to one of two things. The first is that it can corrode, also known as corrosion. This occurs when the metal comes in contact with a chemical substance that it does not have any compatibility with. An example of this is when a metal transforms into an oxide.
Another way that metal can deteriorate from its natural form is when it rusts. An example of this is when a metal comes in contact with air or water. Rusting is more evident because it is seen happening during the gradual process. With corrosion, it is not always evident what the metal will turn into.
Corrosion is known to be something that may occur when a certain substance becomes exposed to various substances or chemicals that it is not compatible with. Rust is something that may occur when certain types of metals become exposed to the elements in the air or even to water.
When corrosion takes place, you can expect that there is going to be more formation of salts and other types of metal. There are different types depending on the type of substance that you have and what you would expose it to.
For rusting, you can be more sure of what will form on the metal when it starts to happen. Expect that iron oxide will start to form in the process.
