The cathedral is known to be the place that will be considered as the home of the bishop. The basilica, on the other hand, is known to be any place that is connected to the church. It may be the architecture of the church, or it may be an item that is connected strongly to the pope.

It will depend on the type of item that will be used. Take note that there are different categories of the basilica that are available, namely: the papal seat of authority, palace, and so much more. The cathedral is known to be more solid and more precise. The church can only become a basilica when it is recognized by a pope; otherwise, it can be just one of the many churches all over the world.

There are two types of the basilica. The first is a minor, which can be found all over the world, but they are embedded in historical buildings. The second is major. There is four type of major basilica's, and they are only in Rome.
