There was a time when people thought that COVID 19 was not serious. It was only when people started dying from the disease when people started to take this seriously. India was one of the countries that declared lockdown in order to prevent the spread of the disease.

The first lockdown happened last March 25, but it was extended until May 17. The lockdown was eased last May 30. India is considered to be one of the high−risk countries right now. The cases actually spiked after the lockdown was eased, and it is expected to go up if people would not follow the safety protocols that have been set.

On the first day in the month of May, the Government of the nation of India made another step of extending the nationwide lockdown further by adding two weeks more to the weeks of lockdown, which means the nation would be on total lockdown until the 17th of May.

The Government then divided the entire nation of India into three different zones: the green zone, the red zone, and the orange zones, with relaxations applied accordingly. It could be recalled that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has previously declared a 21-day total lockdown for the inhabitants of the nation of India as a way of containing the pandemic, coronavirus.

A lot of people advocated for the easing of lockdown, in which was a suicidal attempt as the numbers kept on increasing in some cities in India, so in response to the initial 21 days of total lockdown ending. The government decided to add another two weeks to the lockdown.

The Indian government further extended its lockdown on April 14. The first phase of the lockdown started on March 25 and lasted for a period of 21 days, which actually ended on April 14. However, India entered into the second phase of another lockdown when the India Prime Minister Narendra Modi further extended the lockdown until May 3.

According to him, the main reason for the extension of the lockdown was to further reduce or break the transmission cycle of the novel coronavirus. Most countries of the world that are battling with this pandemic are practically on a lockdown. This has been thought to be one of the ways by which the spread of the coronavirus can be reduced since no single vaccine has been approved to stop the disease.

As of today, about 37 000 people have been infected, while a total of 1,223 deaths have been recorded in India. With this development, the Indian government has further extended a national lockdown, which will end on May 17.

Phase 2 of the lockdown in India began on April 15 and ended on May 3 however the lockdown has been extended further for 2 more weeks. These lockdowns were put in place by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modito help stop the spread of the coronavirus. He acted early on, as he implemented these lockdowns when the country only had 500 cases of the virus. This is a low number compared to the population of one billion in the region.
