UMTS is an abbreviation for the Universal Mobil Telecommunications system, and W-CDMA is an abbreviation for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access. The UMTS is a network system; it is a third-generation telecommunication technology for mobile electronics. UMTS uses the network in the second generation, which enables it to perform dual operations.

The UMTS transfer speed is 21 Mbits/s. It makes use of the DS- CDMA, and FDD duplexing method to achieve this speed and support more users. W-CDMA includes a lot of features, which are radio channels that are 5MHZ full, multicode transmission, Signal to Interference Ratio, multiuser detection, a 3.84 Mcps chip rate, and so on. It is an air interface and also a member of the UMTS body.

UMTS stands for Universal Mobil Telecommunications system. It is a third generation telecommunicator technology for mobile electronics. The most popular form of UMTS makes use of WCDMA, which stands for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access, which is an air interface stand that is a necessary aspect of any mobile telecommunications mechanism of the 3G system. However, the system requires use of TD-CDMA (Time Division Synchronous) CDMA. UTMS is a complete network system.

It also encompasses the radio access network, the core network, and the verification of consumers using the USIM cards. (or subscriber identity module.) W-CDMA is an interface standard that is mostly found in 3G mobile telecommunications networks. UMTS entails the use of new base stations as well as new frequency allocations. UTMS is closely related to GSM (Global System for mobile communications technology) and develops around the concepts of GSM.

UMTS or Universal Mobile Telecommunications System is one of the technologies that came after the old GSM networks. This means UTMS is one of the third generation technologies that were made specifically for mobile networks. When you compare this technology with the ones used for 2G networks, you will notice a sharp improvement, since UTMS supports data speed up to 45Mbps. Although, most of these features in UTMS were also used in 2G. On the other hand, WCDMA or Wideband Code Division Multiple Access is one of the technologies used in UTMS. WCDMA is one of the air interfaces used by UTMS.

WCDMA makes use of the two 5MHz channels to send its signals, usually from the base station to mobile device, and from mobile device to base station. WCDMA makes it possible for subscribers to enjoy high speed internet access, higher data speed, etc. TD-SCDMA and UTRA-TDD HCR are two other examples of air interfaces that are used in UTMS.
