A product is a tangible and physical substance; this implies that it can be seen, held, felt, or smelt. Products are also referred to as goods. The word product was gotten from the word produce. That is whatever tangible thing that has been produced is a product. A product can be returned to the seller after purchase and can be compensated; it can be returned as a result of damage.

Service, on the other hand, is not a tangible or physical substance; it can only be experienced. Services cannot be returned to the provider. An example of service is inviting the plumber for a fix for your car going to the auto mechanic for going to the barbing saloon to get a cut. Services cannot be numerically commented on.

The most noticeable difference between products and services is that products are tangible, as you can hold them, pick them up, and put them down. A product can be returned to the seller for replacement or refund in case it becomes damaged. A product is often created from the product by the user. The user is the only one who knows the criteria the product must meet for him or her to purchase it.

With a service, it is the customer care that attracts the buyers of that specific service, while in a product, there are other variables to consider, such as branding. A service is technically work accomplished by another person for the individual or customer. A few examples of service include receiving legal advice from a practicing lawyer, someone who serves you in a restaurant, an auto mechanic who fixes your car, or the hairdresser who cuts your hair.

Foremost, a major difference between products and services is that the former is tangible, while the latter is intangible. Products are usually physical commodities that you can touch, see, and even smell. Whereas services are not physical in the real sense, it is just the final outcome of the rendered service that might be visible. Selling a product has to do with you making your products available for the buyer to access, then he or she would pay, and you as a seller receives your money.

Conversely, to sell a service, your client has to believe in you because what you want to offer is in you as a seller. Rendering a service can most likely demand using some tools to achieve the desired goal. Another difference between these two is that you can probably numerically or with a kind of measurement quantify your products. But you cannot quantify a service because it is intangible. The offering of services can end up creating some products, though.
