What is the difference between Totalitarianism and Authoritarianism?

Totalitarianism and Authoritarianism are two types of government regimes. Both have one leader, but totalitarianism is more extreme. The people under totalitarianism rule feel a connection with their leader, which gives the leader more control. Leaders, through authoritarianism, do not use charisma, but instead, use fear to control their followers. If a person disobeys him, they will have consequences, while those that are loyal to him will be rewarded. The leader under totalitarianism is seen as being for the people and wanting to save the people. The leader of authoritarianism uses force through parties and actions to get the people to follow him.

Totalitarianism is known to be a form of government wherein the government will have the ability to control different aspects of people’s lives. It does not matter whether they are dealing with something public or private, it can already be expected that the government will have a say on how they are going to live their lives.

Usually there are some rules that will be implemented by the dictator. Authoritarianism is the type of government wherein people are allowed to have a certain degree of political freedom. There are still some strict government controls that will be imposed on the people, institutions, and different types of interest groups.
