Cream and crème Fraiche are both similar products with very little difference. The cream is derived from the top of boiled milk; it is a dairy product that contains the highest percentage of homogenized milk. The cream can be skimmed from milk or whey. Sweet cream is derived from milk while whey cream is derived from a byproduct of cheese; it tastes salty, cheesy, and tangy. It has low fat compared to the cream derive from milk.
Crème Fraiche contains 10- 40 % of butterfat with about 4.5 PH, which is sourced with bacterial culture. Crème Fraiche is a double cream which consists of buttermilk, yogurt, and sour cream. It is also a dairy product. It is produced by adding a starter culture to heavy milk and allowing it to thicken under a certain temperature.
Some people may think that the only difference between the two is the spelling of these two words, but they have different meanings too. When you say cream, this means that this is the butterfat part of milk that usually pushes its way to the top when the milk is being boiled. This will then be removed from the milk because the cream is considered to be richer.
Creme, on the other hand, is known to be the French term for cream but then, the difference is that this will be slightly fermented. This may be placed in some desserts wherein it is meant to enhance the flavors of the desserts wherein people would put it.
