Totalitarianism is a political style of state government whereby the political party in power controls and monitors both the private and public life of every individual in the society. All the civil institutions in that particular state will have to forcefully follow any agenda laid down by the political party in power. In this system of government, the citizens are expected to be in total loyalty to the ruling power without any question.
In the present day world, examples of countries where totalitarianism is being practiced include China, Iran, and North Korea. Dictatorship, on the contrary, refers to an autocratic system of government, whereby a single person is in power, having absolute control and rulership over the people, judiciary, military, and government. In this system of governance, there are no drawn-out or fixed rules for the citizens, except for whatever the sole ruler dictates. The famous rulership of Muammar Gaddafi over Libya is a good example of a dictatorship form of governance.
