Emo basically stands for and represents emotional hardcore. It is a type of punk rock music that actually originated in Washington at about the mid-90s. Goth, on contrast, has an earlier origin, which dates back to the early 80s. Goth is actually the short term for Gothic rock. Basically, both the emo and the Goth are different forms of experimental underground music and also hardcore punk. Their musical influences are also basically the same, having the punk style as the root.
Emo has stayed close home when we talk about the musical influence while Goth has actually traveled far towards Electronica. Emos usually express themselves in poems such as Allen Ginsberg’s ‘Howl.’ They also make some critiques based on the post-punk and the punk philosophy. While Goth has a sub-culture that relates to black magic, witchcraft, vampire, and their way of thinking drift more towards death, fiction and fantasy.
