Models and theories are two things that seem confusing to students in their various fields of study, especially when it has to do with science. The two are obtained at different levels of study. Models can be produced before the formulation of theories, while theories are formed after theories in most instances. A difference that can also be noted between them is that models form the basis for the formation of theories, while these theories are needed to explain different scientific phenomena.
Models are seen to take the form of a mathematical, visual, or verbal representation of a scientific process in order to obtain theories and test inferences. Models can also be seen to be an application of theories in some instances. Another definition that can be given to models is to be the representation of a theory in a physical phenomenon. In addition, you can also make use of models to confirm a theory in some instances.
