Tri-Cyclen and Tri-Cyclen Lo are two contraceptives used to prevent pregnancy. There is no big difference between the two as both contain the same female hormones i.e., norgestimate and Ethinyl estradiol. These two medications cause certain changes to occur to the uterine lining and cervical mucus so that it becomes impossible for the sperm to get to the uterus.
This will also make it harder for any fertilized egg from getting attached to the uterine lining. However, the main difference between the two is the level of estrogen in both Tri-Cyclen and Tri-Cyclen Lo. The amount of estrogen is higher in Tri-Cyclen than what is available in Tri-Cyclen Lo.
Another difference is that Tri-Cyclen has been approved by the FDA to help in the treatment of acne in females, whereas Tri-Cyclen Lo has not been approved. When using the two contraceptives for the first time, it is usually advised to use other contraceptives like condoms.
