Stars referred to large collection gases and plasma, which are held together with the help of gravity. There is a thermonuclear fusion that takes place in the core of a star, which makes it produce a huge quantity of energy in terms of heat and light.
On the other hand, planets refer to those celestial bodies that make an orbit around the stars. A planet can be in the form of gases or rock or even the combination of the two. Planets are being held up there by gravity also, whereas this gravity is not that strong enough to produce thermonuclear fusion or reaction.
Stars are heavenly bodies that have been existing for thousands of years, and they are miles away from the earth. The formation of stars starts with a cloud of atoms like hydrogen, and pressure is exerted on the core to make it produce helium, which makes the star to start giving off heat and light. However, the planet is formed by the growth and collision of star orbits.
