What is the difference between Gen X And Gen Y?

The difference between Gen X and Gen Y is usually noted in the definitions, shaping events, the origin of the term, and also other factors.

Gen X stands fully for generation X. It refers to the population that was born between the early 1960s to 1979. Gen X precedes generation Y. Generation X was also known as the Latchkey generation. The name was as a result of the massive reduction in parenting. This generation X was also the victim of the widespread change in societal values. There were also cases of divorce, increased childcare option outside the home setup in generation X.

Generation Y is also called Millennials. Some of the population in this generation were born by some older generation Xers and baby boomers. Unlike generation X, generation Y received protection and shelter from their parents. There was strong development in generation Y which include heavy usage of the internet and also advancement in technology.

There is a need to differentiate the different traits and characteristics of people. There are some studied groups based on age which classifies them into different generations. Examples of these generations are generations X and Y. Generation X are individuals that are born between 1965 to 1980.

They are known to be independent and grew up with minimal adult observation as compared to the previous generations. They are the ones that experienced the transition from analog to digital. Even though they are already tech-savvy, they are not as well versed as compared to the generations after them.

Generation Y is also known as the Millenials. these are individuals born between 1981 to 1996. These are usually the children of baby boomers, another generation. This generation seems to have started the decline in the fertility rate. They are usually more concerned about improving their individual lives first instead of thinking about family life.
