CNM stands for Certified Nurse Midwife, while CPM stands for Certified Professional Midwife, while CPM strands for Certified Professional Midwife. For CNM’s They will take up nursing as a degree and then are trained as a midwife later. For a CPM, they don’t have a nursing degree, but they are trained in the area of being a midwife.
CPM’s are trained in home birth settings while CNM’s are trained in a hospital setting by obstetricians or other nurse-midwives. CNM’s are more qualified because they have obtained a nursing degree to be able to exercise their profession.
They have more license to practice holistically when caring for their patients. You also have to take into consideration if the midwife is licensed, has adequate experience with performing birth deliveries, and has sufficient training because you also need to make sure both mommy and baby get through the birth safely.
