The major difference between the two Nintendo products is the size. The DSi XL is bigger in size and in all dimensions when compared to the DSi, and it is also heavier by roughly 50%. This actually gives the DSi XL a sturdier feel, and it provides ample room to be held comfortably.
Even the stylus of the DSi XL is longer by about almost 4cm than that of the DSi. One big advantage of the DSi XL over the DSi is the bigger LCD screens. The DSi has 3.25-inch screens, while the DSi XL has a screen size of 4.2 inches installed.
The larger screen is beneficial to people suffering from impaired vision. DSi is okay for people with good eyesight. The DSi XL offers little. It still retains the same resolution. So each pixel in the DSi pixel was made bigger, which results in a lower PPI (pixels per inch) count.
