There are some little differences between scalloped and Au Gratin Potatoes. Both are popular methods that can be used to prepare potatoes. Scalloped potatoes are usually made like casseroles, usually with milk, cheese, cream, and breadcrumbs. There are different versions of scalloped potatoes.
For example, we have the ones that are commonly prepared in America and the Irish ones. In fact, some versions of scalloped potatoes are made with other ingredients like meat. One of the major differences between the two is that scalloped potatoes are known as au gratin or au gratin potatoes in France and other French-speaking countries. Another difference is that unlike scalloped potatoes that can only be made by baking, au gratin potatoes can also be prepared on a grill. Also, unlike in scalloped potatoes where the main ingredient is potatoes, au gratin dishes can be made with vegetables, meat, fish, pasta, etc.
