ERCP or Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography is a medical procedure that is done by performing incision on the skin so that an instrument known as an endoscope can be inserted in order to have a better view of the inside. This procedure is usually performed to diagnose certain problems of the pancreas ducts as well as that of the bile ducts.
Endoscope and fluoroscopy are used for this procedure so as to have a good view of the pancreas, duodenum, and the stomach. MRCP or Magnetic Resonance Cholangio-Pancreatography is not an invasion procedure like ERCP. MRCP uses the magnetic field that is created by an MRI machine around a patient to take images of the needed area.
The images taken are that of the pancreas ducts, bile ducts, and the surrounding tissues. The good thing about this method is that it is not as expensive as ERCP. Another thing is that ERCP might lead to certain complications, while MRCP doesn't have any.
