Tithes and firstfruits are two religious obligations that mandate believers to give a certain percentage of their income and their first fruits to God with the hope that they will be blessed in return. Although the two practices have become parts of the religious activities of the believers, especially in Christianity, however, these two were commonly meant to be observed by the Israelites.
Tithes started as one of the commandments of God to the people of Israel through Moses. They are expected to give 10 percent of their income to God. God's way of reminding his people about this commandment can be seen in (Malachi 3:8). On the other hand, first fruits also came as a commandment from God, which obligates every Israelite to give the first part of their harvest to God.
The Israelites would take their first fruits, usually grains, to their priests and finally to the temple for God to release his blessings on them. The first fruit is God's way of making Israelites extends His love back to him, while tithes are mostly given to the Levites and the poor.
