Basically, you can use ordinal numbers to indicate position, space, and rank. Some of the verbal examples of ordinal numbers are the use of words to represent numbers, such as first, third, fourth, fifth, and so on. As for nominal numbers, they can be referred to as numbers that are used to represent important entities, such as numbers to represent concepts, persons, objects, and the likes.

Examples include the number on a jersey uniform and your social security digit that is available to many. Ordinal numbers came into being when introduced by Georg Cantor in 1897. This was done by creating a natural number that can be used to describe the position of an element in a specific pattern and to also describe the size of a set. The nominal numbers are, however, obtained from a statistical term named “nominal data”. They were not really created by any specific person, but are designed to be originally in school textbooks.

Nominal and ordinal numbers are related to the subject of math. Nominal numbers are numbers that represent something for the purpose of making the thing unique. To understand it easier, nominal numbers can be seen as names because a name is what makes a person unique.

This is how nominal numbers work. An example of a nominal number is a phone number. Each person has a different phone number, which is related to a specific person. An ordinal number is used to run a position. An example of that is a birthday, which will tell how old a person is.

Cardinal numbers are known to be counting numbers which means that this will indicate the number of items that are available. This will be able to indicate quantity. Ordinal numbers will be able to indicate the order or the rank of different items. Nominal numbers will be very helpful in identifying something.

For example, you may want to know the zip code or the player of the team. This is going to be a bit complicated. Remember that nominal numbers will be able to work better if you are searching for non-parametric variables. For ordinal numbers, you would be able to place the different data in certain positions.

Nominal numbers are numbers that are used to represent something in order to make them more unique. We can say nominal numbers are used as names so that something can easily be understood. When these numbers are used, they might seem irrelevant, but they hold very vital information about whatever they are used for. Your phone number is an example of a nominal number.

Also, the number written on the Jersey of an athlete or a player is also a number. At times, a nominal number can consist of numbers and alphabets. On the other hand, an ordinal number is used to reveal the position, rank of an object within a set.

Most times, ordinal numbers are represented with words such as first, second, third, tenth. Ordinal numbers are used mostly to give certain information about our actual age. For example I will be celebrating my 30th birthday tomorrow.
