Cavity and pits both refer to holes. But are both used in different context like body cavity in the body and also pit to the ground.
In dentistry, cavity can be defined as any part of the teeth that has decayed and can also be defined as the space in a solid object that is empty.
Cavities in the teeth is caused when food are left in the teeth to start rotting and decaying, some bacteria are formed which causes a permanent damage to the teeth. These bacteria cause the production of an acids that weaken the enamel and dentin.
A pit can be simply referred to as the stone of fruits and also a large hole on the surface of the ground. Pit is also used as a term in dentistry which refers to a small depression which is naturally formed between teeth as they mature. Pit is primarily found at the tooth grooves.

Cavity and pit are two examples of English words with different meanings. By this, I mean English words that are used in different areas. For instance, the cavity and pit are two terms used in the field of dentistry. Cavity means a hollow area within the body or empty space within a solid object.
In dentistry, the cavity means a hole in a tooth, which is caused by caries. Cavities are not formed naturally in the teeth; they are formed when food particles that are stuck in the little space that exists between the teeth start decaying. The activities of some bacteria on the decaying food cause the decay of the teeth due to the acid being produced by the bacteria.
On the other hand, the pit is a naturally occurring small depression that is formed on the surface of the teeth. Pits can also cause the decay of the teeth if food particles get stuck in them.
