There are a lot of differences between a ruby and emerald. Rubies and emeralds are important gemstones.

A ruby is prized for its color, it is trigonal and has a Mohs scale of hardness of 9, it has a melting point of 2044 degrees Celsius. The best rubies are from Mogok valley in upper Burma. They are also mined in Thailand and Cambodia. Synthetic rubies can be made by fusing potash alum to a high temperature and using chromium as the pigment.

An emerald system is hexagonal and it measures 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness it has a refractive index of 1.576 to 1.582and a specific gravity of 2.70 to 2.78. Emerald can be found in so many places around the world like Montana, North and South Carolina, Coscuez, Chizor. A synthetic emerald can be induced by effecting an emerald overgrowth on colorless beryl.

Most times, when people are asked to differentiate between a ruby and an emerald, the first thing that comes to mind is their color. In terms of color, an emerald refers to any of various green gemstones, usually regarded as the green transparent form of beryl. This green is gotten through the combination of a certain amount of vanadium and chromium.

On the other hand, a ruby is usually regarded as a precious stone with a variety of red color. The most important thing about ruby is the color, whereas an emerald is usually priced because it is transparent and because of its green color. In terms of hardness, ruby is quite harder compared to emerald.

Their hardness can easily be determined when you use a Mohs scale. When it comes to shape, a ruby is trigonal in shape, whereas an emerald is hexagonal. However, aside from these little differences, both are two important gemstones.
