For many years in medicine, medical personal have relied on written medical records as the only way for recording. Medical coding is a very lucrative career because of its connectivity offered by local area networks and the internet. Once the medical data of a client is coded, it makes the work easier for a person to access.

AHIMA stands for the American health information management association; it was founded in 1928. American health information management provides certification that is focused on the mastery of in and out of a patient recording.

AAPC stands for the American academy of professional coders. The AAPC is known as the major source of CPC credentials; the CPC credentials allow a medical coder to handle physician services and also adjudicate physician claims.

AHIMA or American Health Information Management Association and AAPC or American Academy of Professional Coders are two organizations where medical coders can easily get trained and certified. AHIMA trains medical coders and issues different kinds of credentials like CCS, CCA, RHIT, and RHIA to them.

This organization was created in 1928, and it has since this period trained a lot of people on how to manage records pertaining to patients. On the other hand, AAPC trains a would-be medical coder to make and manage proper records of patients that are not admitted overnight at a hospital. Other credentials like CPC are also issued to medical coders.

Both organizations strive to train and certify people who show interest in working as a medical coder. These people are trained to manage and store relevant medical data of patients so that they can easily be gotten or retrieved if a need for them arises. People are usually advised to do proper research about all the credentials issued by these organizations.
