WRT54G and WRT54GL are routers. The WRT54GL is a variant from the original line, which is WRT54G. WRT54GL is Linux-based, which makes it compatible with the third party/custom firmware. While the WRT54GL is not flashed as easily with 3rd party firmware because of its compatibility issues, it needs the VxWoekskiller is needed by the latter to make it practical. WRT54G has less memory than the WRT54GL.
Version 4 of WRT54G is similar to the WRT54GL. WRT54G was released in 2005 while WRT54GL was released in late 2002; the early version of this device has two detachable antennae, which are connected via reverse polarity TNC connectors; the new version no longer has the TNC connectors and removable antennae, which was later replaced with thin wires.

If in case you would like to make sure that you know what these items are, these are the items that will help you connect to the internet. They do have some differences that will allow you to choose which one will work best for you.
The WT54G is known as the original router that was released while the other ones that are released soon after are the variants that are meant to be used for different purposes. What makes the WT54GL different is the fact that this is meant to be used specifically for Linux devices. There are also some versions that are a bit similar to each other. This is something that you need to consider when you are making the best choice.
