Bitumen and tar are two organic substances with specific similar characteristics. Both are dark viscous liquid consisting mainly of hydrocarbons, and they are mostly derived from organic materials. Bitumen is a naturally occurring organic compound that can be in different places, especially places with abundant organic materials.
On the other hand, tar is also an organic substance consisting mainly of hydrocarbons, which can be gotten from oil, i.e., coal tar, and also from wood, i.e., wood tar. Coal tar is gotten as a bye product during the fractional distillation of crude oil, while wood tar is gotten from wood.
Although both are dark viscous substances that occur mostly in liquid form, however, bitumen can exist in solid form, while tar can only occur as a liquid. Why tar is usually gotten through a process known as distillation, bitumen is a naturally occurring organic substance. Both tar and bitumen are used in the construction of buildings, roads, etc.
