Momentum and impulse are two similar terms that are used in science, physics specifically. They are also similar in the sense that they both entail the same units -mass and velocity. But the fact remains that they are not calculated the same way. Momentum is defined as a vector quantity that can be calculated by multiplying the velocity of an object by its mass.

Impulse can be considered to be an integral of a force across a particular time interval, which can be obtained by basically calculating the area with the help of a plotted graph of force against time. They really differ in their calculation, as you basically multiply the mass of an object by its velocity to get the momentum; while you calculate the variation in the momentum of a body to obtain its impulse.

Force is needed to calculate the impulse, but you can use momentum to calculate force. Thus, you might need to calculate your momentum first, then impulse.
