There are a lot of people who are often confused with the differences between simile and metaphor. What makes these two so confusing is they are both used in order to compare different items. The only difference is the type of words that will be used. One of the things that you can remember is that simile means that you would need to compare items that are similar to each other.
You are bound to use some words such as “like” or “as.” The metaphor would also compare different items but instead of saying that the items are like the same thing. It would insist that two items are the same. The saying, “You are the apple of my eye.” is a metaphor.
