Algae are green slimy matter that you can see at the bottom of your aquarium or the bottom of a non-chlorinated pool. Algae are plant-like, and they go through the process of photosynthesis because they use light energy for nourishment along with the minerals they obtain from the surrounding water.
Algae convert inorganic material into organic material. Fungi are mushrooms that you can sometimes find even in your backyard. There are other types of fungi, such as molds and yeast. Fungi can decompose organic matter much faster than algae.
Fungi chow down on the leftover uneaten fruit, such as an apple core, or also a fruit that has been left open at an average temperature. After some time, the fruit becomes inedible because the mold begins to grow on it.
