Joists and beams are structural apparatuses that are used to frame buildings. Joists are comparable to small beams. Joists are horizontal structures that run over an open space. Their function is the same as beams except joists are short distance compared to beams. Joists are made of steel, wood, or engineered wood. Beams are one of the most familiar structural mechanisms that are also typically horizontal.
However, they carry the floor leads from the floors, walls, and roofs to the columns or the foundation of walls. The purpose of a beam is to provide a smooth, straight level surface, even with the peak of the mudsill, which will support the floor joist system between the foundation walls.
