Both Cat5e and Cat6 have their full form as Category 5 Enhanced and Category 6. Both are used as network cabling, which is used for data transmission from one end to another location. Apart from the fact that both offer almost similar functions, there are still some differences between the two.
First, Cat 5e cannot operate at the same frequency as Cat 6; the latter operates with the minimum frequency of 200 MHz, while the former does not operate at this level.
This is one of the reasons why Cat6 supports faster data transmission. Although, for Cat6 to transmit very faster, all other components of the network must be operating at the same level. Due to the fact that it transmits very faster than Cat 5e, it should be expected that Cat 6 cables will be more expensive compared to Cat 5e. Cat 6 cables have enough capacity to work perfectly with any upgrade or improvement.
