FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council, while the full meaning of SFI is the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. These council and initiative are developed by the management groups of the American Forests and Paper Association to represent and manage the forests and environment.
These systems are responsible for the present and future maintenance of the forest and environment with respect to the rights and cultures of various communities. A major difference between these two systems is that FSC uses a third-party audit, while it is not so for SFI. FSC is being measured based on performance, while the SFI system does not necessarily require measurement of performance.
Comprehensive and detailed ecological indicators are used for the FSC, while optional and general indicators are used for the SFI. The guidelines, rules, and standards of FSC are stricter or stringent than those of SFI. The FSC also places more focus on indigenous people and local communities than the SFI. FSC requires an annual audit, while SFI does not.
