Avenue and Street are two words used to refer to roads that are used for traveling. Streets are mostly used in the suburbs to refer to a paved part of the road in between houses that are built in rows. Streets are intentionally built so as to allow people to have unhindered access to their houses as soon as they leave a major road. People can easily walk freely along the street without any form of traffic.
Some streets are connected to one another in such a way that you can easily use them as shortcuts to a major road. On the other hand, the avenue is a word used to describe a major road in a city or town. The common thing about most avenues is that they usually have big trees along their sides at regular intervals. Avenues are mostly built in such a way that they have branches that lead to different streets across the city. While cases of traffics are common on avenues, you don't experience traffic when plying streets.
