An unmanaged switch is known to be simple to use. Its main goal is to connect Ethernet devices to a fixed connection. This is the type of switch that is used by small networks so that it can be connected to bigger networks.

A managed switch will also allow you to connect, but aside from that, this will allow you to manage and change your LAN settings so that it will make sure that it can be reliable if in case network failure occurs. With unmanaged switches, you can easily plug it in and just use it.

A managed switch will need a bit of setting up so that you can fix it according to how you want it. An unmanaged switch will have very basic security while a managed switch will have better security according to your settings.
