Etiology and Pathology are two terms that are closely related, especially when talking about diseases, but they are not totally the same. Whenever a research work is being conducted on a particular disease, the various areas to be looked into at the early stage of its outbreak usually fall under etiology. Etiology deals with the various processes of ascertaining the origin, causes of a particular disease. For instance, if scientists are to carry out researches about the origin and causes of a particular disease, their operations usually fall under etiology.
On the other hand, pathology is another branch of medicine that deals with the study of the nature of the disease. Under pathology, more details about the causes of disease, the truth about its development, plus the consequences will be revealed. Pathology gives more details about a particular disease than what you get from etiology. The activities of a disease, its symptoms, and its consequences are most times discussed under pathology.
