Inelastic and Elastic Collisions are the two ways the term collision can be divided into. There are so many differences between the two. Inelastic collision simply refers to a kind of collision that leads to the generation of heat and deformation when two objects collide with each other. For elastic collision, heat is not generated, and the colliding objects are not distorted when they collide with one another.
Another difference between the two is the state of the energy of the two bodies before and after the collision. For inelastic collision, the energy of the colliding objects before the collision is not the same as the energy after the collision.
Part of this energy will be changed thermal energy, sound energy, etc. For elastic collision, the kinetic energy of the colliding objects is the same before and after the collision. Also, there is no change in the momentum of the colliding objects before and after the elastic collision, but the reverse is the case for the inelastic collision.
