Society is a collection of people within a specific area in which rules and customs regulate the people. The relationship between people is governed by the agreed-upon standards set within society. People's social conduct is usually dependent on the shared view of society about what is good and what is bad.
The rules and customs of society also depend upon the people's shared opinions within society. State, on the other hand, is part of a society like many other associations and institutions. The state is the most important grouping inside a society, as it has the power to make rules and regulations that the members within this jurisdiction must adhere to. If these rules are violated, there is an appropriate punishment, usually ordained by the state's coercive power. The practice of law is maintained in a society with the help of the state only.
There are a lot of people who may get confused between state and society. The society is known to be made out of different individuals that are all part of a certain relationship wherein they are all working on a common goal that will benefit them all. For the state, this refers to a politically organized party that may be able to protect and promote the common interests of people.
This means that the state is a part of society. The society is not part of the state because this is considered to be the bigger option available. The state will also require a lot of laws to ensure that it will work properly. The society will be in charge of all the social conduct that takes place.
