First of all, the full meaning of COPD is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It is a chronic inflammatory disease of the lung, which causes long term breathing and poor airflow problems. This is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity from respiratory illness in the world. The common causes of COPD include smoking, chemical and dust penetration into the system through breathing, and alpha1 antitrypsin.

The symptoms of COPD also include weight loss, tiredness, cough, wheezing, and shortness of breath, chest tightness, or swelling of the ankle. On the other hand, pneumonia is a fungal, viral, or bacterial infection, either one of the two lungs. This leads to the inflammation of alveoli, and it makes breathing difficult.

Streptococcus pneumonia is the popular cause of bacterial pneumonia; respiratory viruses are the major cause of viral pneumonia, while people with a weak immune system can develop fungal pneumonia. The common symptoms of pneumonia include shortness of breath, chest pain, and cough with mucus, chills, sweating, and fever.
