Skype and Skype for Business are two services of Microsoft. Skype for Business, originally known as Lync, is the actual product of Microsoft while Skype became one of the services of Microsoft after it was acquired in 2011. You might not notice any difference when you compare the basic functionalities of the two versions. For instance, Skype and Skype for Business allow audio and video calls between two or more users. Users can also send messages to one another. However, Skype for Business has more optimized options for businesses. The reality is that both support video conferencing and meeting, but Skype can only accommodate up to 25 participants while Skype for Business can accommodate up to 250 participants for free. Also, Skype for Business has more features that allow users to broadcast a meeting to other 10,000 online participants. You can use Skype for free, but you will need to subscribe to any of the plans of Skype For Business before you can use it.

Skype is something that you will use when you have a small business, and you have fewer than 20 employees who will do the different needed tasks for you. When you are using Skype for business, this will allow you to add more people to your different groups and meetings. In fact, you can add up to 250 people, which is always a good thing, especially if you would like to manage a lot of people. Skype for Business is also integrated into your different Office apps, which will allow you and your employees to do work better. Take note that while a lot of businesses used Skype for Business, this is now being replaced by another app called “Microsoft Teams.” This is supposed to come with new and improved features that will help you manage your business better.
