It would be nice if animals lived for a lot longer than they do, and dogs especially have relatively short lives. Most dog varieties have a life expectancy of 15 years, while the average life expectancy of a human being is 75 years.

Dogs will usually reach maturity after one year. Humans live five times longer than dogs, and one dog year is equivalent to seven human years. Year one counts as one year, and then every year after that is equal to seven years. It all depends on several different variables.

It is the type of breed, size, gender, nutrition, and living environments for dogs. Most of the time, it is the overall health of the person that determines life expectancy for humans. Small dog breeds also tend to live longer than large breeds. Human beings depend on fitness and nutrition to maintain good health.

There was a time when people were made to believe that seven human years is equivalent to one dog year. However, this comparison is inaccurate, most especially when you consider the average life expectancy of dogs and compare it with that of humans. In most countries of the world, the average life expectancy of humans is 75 years. In contrast, the average life expectancy of some breeds of dogs is 15 years. Another thing is that dogs reach maturity faster than humans. Most dogs reach maturity after 12 months, whereas humans reach maturity when they clock 15 years of age. When you compare the life expectancy of humans with that of dogs, it is easy to conclude that humans exist five times longer than dogs. However, this calculation might not hold in most cases as there are dogs that live longer than 15 years. Also, some dogs do not live up to 15 years.

It can be confusing for a lot of people to computing how old their dogs would be as compared to them. There is a reason why the life span of dogs is much shorter as compared to the average life span of humans. Dogs will usually be very mature during the first year of their life. They would already be comparable to a person who is already 15 years of age.

Remember that dogs will mature more quickly during the early years. As the dogs grow older, this will be the time when dogs would grow about 7 years more as compared to 1 year of human beings. Take note that the lifespan will always be different for various animals especially when compared to human years.
