Concentric contraction is when the muscles are shortened when they contract, and the force that is generated enough to overcome resistance. When someone repeatedly lifts a dumbbell and performs a bicep curl, the created force is more than enough to carry the item or pick it up.
This process causes the muscles to shorten because the force is less than the muscle's maximum capacity, which means that the weight can be handled. Eccentric contraction is where the muscles are lengthened when they contract, and the force that is created cannot take on the opposition of the external force.
These kinds of contractions are more likely to occur while performing every- day activities. When muscles are active, they will lengthen. This can happen even if you are walking around your neighborhood. The most common example of an eccentric contraction is when you pick up or handle something too heavy.
