Breast cancer is categorized into four stages. This staging system helps us to know how to advance and if cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
Stage 0: this stage is also known as carcinoma in situ. The cancer cells are yet to invade the breast tissues. It is still localized to the point of origin
Stage 1: is when the cancer cells have invaded normal breast tissues. This stage is further divided into
stage 1A and stage 1B based on what part of the breast tissue it has spread to.
Stage 2: means cancer has spread to some breast lymph nodes. At this stage, the cancer is between the sizes of 2cm and 5cm. Stage 2 cancer is also divided into Stage 2A and Stage 2B.
Stage 3: cancer has spread to more breast tissues, and it is larger in size. It is also divided into stage 3A and stage 3B.
Stage 4: is the most advanced stage of breast cancer. This occurs when the cancerous cells have spread to the lymph nodes and other parts of the body such as the brain, lungs, bones, and liver.
