Goosebumps are generally caused by the body’s fight or flight response. They are more of a reaction to the cold, as opposed to goosebumps being accompanied by the cold. Goosebumps can help keep you warm. When your cold, the muscle movement which controls goosebumps, also helps to raise your body temperature.

In animals, this effect also raises hairs in a way that traps air to provide insulation. Animals have a lot more hair than humans do. As your body becomes warmer, your goosebumps will gradually start to disappear.

Whenever we are feeling cold, the next thing is for our body to react to it and create some heat so as to minimize the effect of the cold. The appearance of goosebumps on your skin is one of the ways through which your body regulates its temperature. The appearance of goosebumps on your skin will not always reduce the way at which you're feeling the cold, but it will help to maintain the normal temperature which your body needs at that period.

That's why when goosebumps are formed on your body; they create a kind of warmth in your inside. The contraction of the muscles that are attached to the hair on your skin is what is causing goosebumps. There are other things that can cause goosebumps to be formed on your skin. One of the ways is when your body gets aroused by something or when you get emotional.
