What are top Carnivores?

Top carnivores are known to be the type of carnivores that can be found on the top of the food chain. They are considered to be higher-order carnivores as compared to the other carnivores that can be found in the ecosystem. Top carnivores are very important because they are able to keep the balance of the whole ecosystem. Over the past decades, human beings have caused the disruption of these top carnivores.

Some of them are being pushed into extinction. As a result, there are many changes that are set to occur. There will be differences in the types of plants that will be available in certain areas. There are also more diseases that may become released later on.

Top carnivores are carnivores that are situated at the top of a food chain of numbers. They are also known as apex predators. These groups of animals feed on other animals (flesh). A top carnivore is not fed upon itself. Common examples are Lions, tigers, leopards, wolves, hyenas, and foxes. Top carnivores play a major role in controlling the population of their prey.

Although in the case of aggressive interactions, top carnivores may kill each other, they do not eat each other. Due to energy limits (minimal production of prey animals) to the numbers of top carnivores that an ecosystem can sustain, most ecosystems have very few top carnivores.
