Endangered animal species is a species that has been categorized as likely to become extinct in the nearest future. Endangered animal species are categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on its Red List. According to the Red list in 2012, 3,079 animal species are listed as endangered worldwide.
Some animal species that are at a higher risk of extinction in the immediate future include Black rhino, red wolf, African wild ass, Northwest Africa Cheetah, Chinese giant salamander, Cross River gorilla, hawksbill turtle, Philippine crocodile, Arabian leopard, Amsterdam albatross and many more. Animal species are becoming endangered due to climate change, loss of habitat, lack of genetic variations, invasive species, diseases, pollution, and human predation.
