The winter solstice is considered to be special because this will mark the longest night and shortest day of the year. This is considered to be the symbolic death and the resurrection of the sun so that it will be able to provide the services that people need better.

This is also considered to be the time when the “seasonal lag” takes place. Basically, this is the time when people will also experience the coldest winter weather available. People usually think that this is the time when they can do some reflection regarding the things that they have experienced so far. They believe that this is the best time for them for regeneration and renewal.

The winter solstice is the date with the fewest amount of sunlight in the whole year. The word Solstice translates into "sun stands still," which refers to the low amount of sunlight which stays still upon the horizon in the winter. Interestingly, it occurs at a specific time of day on a different day each year.

The time and date also correspond with the moment the north pole is aimed at the furthest distance from the sun on the 23.5-degree angle of the earth's axis. The Solstice is also the time in which the sun shines directly over the Tropic of Capricorn.

The winter solstice is so special because it marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres of the earth. The winter solstice is also a very special annual moment in many cultures and traditions across the globe. Some of the cultures and traditions have been in existence for thousands of years. This makes the winter solstice of high importance to thousands of people across the globe.

It is amazing to know that many cultures in the world celebrate winter solstice for a different reason. Many of these cultures celebrate the death and birth of something significant such as the sun. Winter solstice also marks the beginning of the winter season in many nations. In the Northern hemisphere, the winter solstice occurs between the 20th and 23rd of December. The Winter Solstice usually occurs in December. A lot of people feel that this is the mark of Winter. This is also the time when darkness is longer than daylight. Instead of making this a negative thing, people may see it as something positive because it gives the sun a chance to regenerate and become born into something that is stronger.

People refer to this day as the shortest day or the longest night of the year. This becomes even more special because this only happens in a day. It will take a whole year before this becomes available again. Take note that there is a difference between the coldest winter weather with the shortest day of winter.
